DDCAP Group sponsored the Kuala Lumpur Islamic Finance Forum (KLIFF) 2019 held recently at the Royale Chulan Hotel, Kuala Lumpur from the 9th to 11th April, 2019. This year marks the 15th anniversary of this forum, a global congregation of Islamic finance practitioners and thought leaders who came together to engage in lively dialogues and discussions on key themes and developments in the industry. DDCAP was represented by Mr. Roslan Ahmad, Chief Representative of DDGI Limited, Kuala Lumpur Representative Office and Ms. Sharifah Bakar Ali, Senior Adviser Malaysian Market of DDGI Limited. Panellists and speakers at this year’s forum spoke around the theme, Technology Face and Sustainability – The Voice of Islamic Finance. Around this key theme, delegates engaged in spirited discussions on amongst others the extent and outreach of smart technology, structuring Islamic Finance to deliver the intended outcomes of the Sustainable Development Goals, potential of the halal economy in the Islamic and Western markets and growing prominence of fintech platforms in Islamic economies.
The Prime minister of Malaysia, Tun Mahathir Mohamad officiated the event . In his speech, the Prime Minister spoke about the development of the Islamic Finance industry in Malaysia particularly the achievements made in the sustainable investment space. He cited various instrument issued in the market namely Khazanah’s SRI Sukuk and maiden corporate Green Sukuk to support the development of clean infrastructure. He also touched on the support that the government is willing to provide for the growth of Fintech players and platforms to increase the use of smart technology in Islamic banking.
The PM also launched a book entitled “Islamic Economics” published by ISRA. The book covers philosophical, epistemological and methodological to microeconomic and macroeconomic perspectives from the Islamic finance worldview.
The last day of the conference also featured a dialogue with renowned Shariah scholars who provided valuable insights on the convergence of Shariah principles with terms that govern smart technologies such as blockchain and cryptocurrencies.
DDGI’s booth received visits from various practitioners and members of the academia. The Prime Minister was also given a brief introduction of DDGI when he visited the conference exhibition area.
